What Is Coaching?

Healing the vast majority of chronic illness involves making behavioral changes, like modifying diet, incorporating movement, and reducing stress in work and relationships.  Yet, although these modifications are technically totally within our power, they often feel impossible to incorporate in any durable or meaningful way.

Change is hard for everyone.

Health coaching helps you put into practice the science of behavioral change.  And the scientific literature increasingly shows health coaching to be powerfully effective in improving outcomes related to pain, troublesome substance use, depression, anxiety, diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, and many other chronic conditions.   And since “health” is also “well-being,” anything that affects physical, emotional or spiritual aspects of your life may be explored.

It’s all connected.

The role of the coach is to empower you to be the most effective force for change in your own life.  In other words,  once the process is complete, you will know HOW to harness that force for ANY change YOU want, and no one can EVER take it away from you.

Remember: Coaching is NOT medical advice, and in her role as a coach, Dr. Jackson is not functioning as a doctor. Here is more information about the differences.

Specialized Coaching

Coaching for Chronic Pain

Dr. Jackson has 15 years of experience working with people who suffer from chronic pain. Her experience has taught her that quality of life is most improved in those who use coaching to reconnect to their own power and intuition about the best ways to heal, while reducing their dependence on the health care system.

Coaching for “Gray Area Drinking”

Dr. Jackson also has significant experience working with those who have used prescription pills and alcohol as coping skills. They work - until they don’t - and the harms begin to outweigh the benefit. For alcohol, this has been coined “gray area drinking,” and in addition to general recovery coaching, Dr. Jackson has certification in the NOURISH method of coaching for transforming relationships to alcohol that no longer serve.

Physician & Executive Coaching

Dr. Jackson also offers executive and leadership coaching for health care providers, medical practices, and health care organizations, specializing in provider burnout and value-based time management for optimal work/life balance.

What People Are Saying

“What I love most about working with Dr. Jackson is her down-to-earth yet creative approach to coaching, one that connects quickly with your core hopes and fears, and helps you chart a path toward understanding and authentic change and progress. I came to Dr. Jackson with a lot of confusion about some big life decisions, things that had kept me in decision paralysis for months, years even. She took me through a series of exercises that helped me look deep and connect with my most important values, and the ways in which my life was and was not reflecting them. I never felt like we were walking through a rigid plan, everything was organic and yet directional. I immediately felt more enabled to reconsider my decisions and finally was able to break through my emotional gridlock. Dr. Jackson listens and reflects skillfully and kindly, and creates a safe space for examining what is holding you back. Now over a year after our counseling sessions finished, I am still reaping the benefits of the insights, clarity, and empowerment that I gained from working with her. If you’re ready to dig in, to face and to change what is holding you back from living your values, Dr. Jackson can help you get there.”
